Former Bundesliga coach Roger Schmidt takes over the top Portuguese club Benfica Lisbon.
The 55-year-old signed a two-year contract with the record champions by 2024. This was announced by the club of soccer player Julian Weigl on Thursday.
Schmidt and Benfica had already announced a fundamental agreement at the end of April.
Schmidt, who became the Dutch cup winner and runner -up with PSV Eindhoven, succeeds Nelson Verissimo.
After his time at Bayer Leverkusen, Schmidt initially worked for Beijing Guoan in China, Eindhoven took over in 2020.
