Cyberpunk 2D action SANABI -South Korea, but also inspired by Japanese culture [Developer Interview]

SEUNGHYEON YOU (SEUNGHYEON): Wonder Potion team leader SEUNGHYEON YOU. Currently, we are developing this work, which is a cyberpunk 2D action set in Korea. My favorite game is Valve’s Portal.

――Why did this work developed?

Seunghyeon: When I was a kid, I was playing a lot of shooting games Worms . Among them, I loved the item Ninja Rope. This item doesn’t have that much important role, but I was able to use it in various ways. From here, the idea of creating a 2D action that is the main rope was born, and this work was born.

―― Please tell me the characteristics of this work.

Seunghyeon: There are three main things. Beautiful pixel art, stylish swing action and story that contains various cut scenes.

――What kind of person do you want this work to play?

Seunghyeon: The main target is players who like the genre of 2D action, especially those who like luxurious action games.

――When is an early access planned? What elements will be added in the future?

Seunghyeon: It is scheduled for 4 to 5 months. In the official version, we plan to introduce additional stories, additional stages, and collection elements.

Seunghyeon: I’m really surprised to have a wonderful review than expected, even though it is a stage of early access. We will take all the reviews firmly and proceed with the rest of this work. I would like to thank all the players who spent time for this work!

Oleg Hello, it is a lead game designer in this work, and is an OLEG that is also a joint founder of Door 407 studio. The development team is located in Russia. Most of the members live in Moscow and Zerenogado (small town in the Moscow region), and the remaining members are scattered in various places in Russian.

“What is your favorite game?” Is a difficult question. I have played a lot of games so far, so choose one game is not a simple task. Especially I like quite a wide range of games. Strategy, urban construction, and sandbox games are often playing, but sometimes I will play a game like a shooter. I’m always done, but I enjoy playing. Finally, add to “Pyramida” indie strategy game and “Death Stranding”.

-Why did you start developing this work?

As I mentioned on OLEG, I played a lot of strategy games. There is also a love, and it is important to understand what it is. The game I made for the first time “Ancient Planet” left a lot of bright and vivid memories, and now I enjoy the development of this work. I’m really lucky that I was able to create an enthusiastic development team for this genre. One member is working on RTS for PCs, but not only for work, but also enjoying and developing from the bottom of your heart.

– What kind of person do this work do you want to play?

Oleg I made this work to be delighted by the old strategy game fans. Even though I was thinking of playing only a few turns only in the evening, I was a guy that was in the morning when I realized.

– How long have you been planning for early access? What factors will be added in the future?

The specific plan of the OLEG official release can not be announced yet. Currently, we are collecting feedback and suggestions from players, and we are looking at the correct direction of future development. Depending on the number of systems to be added to the game in the future, it will be officially released in September this year or will be in the first half of 2023.

In the future, a single player campaign consisting of 12 missions or more is definitely added. One of the selections greatly affects the expansion of the game. For example, a specific unit type is added to the player’s list. Alternatively, you can get the ability to build a special building.

Also, both the enemy side and the player side, of course new factions are also added. There are also some ideas to give diversity by the castle’s siege. Therefore, you have to introduce a new system. At least one new mode, and endless mode are also added. In fact, some of them will be added with future updates without waiting for the formal release. We are also examining the most demand map editor from the players.

– Please tell me the impression that you have released as early access.

OLEG I think I was able to work well. Immediately after the start, the user score was 96%, but it has fallen to 89% over a week. However, it is a good result more than expected. Initially, there were technical issues and balance issues. Since the start of early access, bug fixes are made by 24 hours. It is a fact that there was a bug and a balance problem at the beginning of the early access, so it was affected by evaluation and sales. Perhaps this work has a lot of potentials to sell more. Now I am preparing a release scheduled update in the near future, and this hotfix improves the quality of this work and I would be more satisfied with fans. Then you can finally take a break.

OleG The list of affected games will be quite longer from the old “Knights and Merchants” and “Stronghold” series. Of course, I can not forget the impact of “They ARE Billions”.
